Listening beneath behavior, emotion, and change — and what animals reveal when we slow down enough to hear them.
When I began doing animal communication online, I’d get people who wanted their dog to stop barking, their cat to stop having accidents and to get their horse to win the race they were going to be in. But that’s not what it’s all about – there’s much more to the story.
On a deeper level, there are things our animals want us to know that go far beyond behavior. And, it’s not about “fixing” – but listenting and learning from them for more impactful change. And sometimes, more for ourselves than for them.
Our animals are our greatest teachers at times. They’re a reflection of us, and their well-being is intimately connected to the emotional state of the humans who love them.
Many times what they’re trying to tell us isn’t obvious. We “think” it’s a basic need like food or something simple; when the reality is, they have much more to share – and we misunderstand their message.
We have to go to a deeper level of understanding, because many of us are stuck in “analysis paralysis” in our head, and we’re not listening with our heart.
Both head and heart must be connected to our animal friends in order to get the full scope of what they’re trying to tell us. And in animal communication, I often find they have a loving message for their human that can be life-changing.
After all, they have that unconditional love that perhaps no one else has for us. There’s no other agenda, and they’re not “out for themselves”.
So we can trust that the messages come from the heart and nowhere else. Animals are naturally authentic and aren’t trying to be something they’re not, so listening to their messages can be the truest form of guidance.
Our animals can mirror what’s going on with us and NOT them. After all, they’re sensitive and feel our emotions. Their behavior can be a sign of where we’re off emotionally, or that our stress, anxiety or depression are high.
So here’s a question you can ask yourself: If I change the way I think and feel, will their behavior improve or calm down?
There’s a reason why wild horses are taken to prisons for training: The inmates benefit from working with the horses because it helps them too, because calmness is required for training so the horse not only changes, but so do their caretakers – for the better.
If the the person handling the horse has a high level of anxiety, the horse will feel it and will reflect those feelings by behaving in an anxious way. This teaches the handler to breathe, calm down and pay attention to their own feelings.
Animals can be a mirror that reflects our own emotions back to us. They give us the clarity we’re lacking in how WE feel and behave.
Animals that are in spirit (or “animal angels” as I call them), share amazing insight that helps us heal on so many levels. Because often when an animal is struggling at end-of-life, we have that decision to make of whether to help them cross over.
This can create a high level of stress for the human, because they often wonder if they “did the right thing”. After all, we don’t euthanize humans, so this is unique to our animal friends.
Then we can suffer for weeks, months or years afterward with guilt, remorse and wondering if we should have done it sooner or later. But connecting with our animal angels provides so much healing and peace of mind, because our animals love and understand us more than we know.
Ultimately, animal communication is a tool that provides healing, clarity and peace of mind. It’s invaluable to those of us who see animals as much more than a companion; but a family member whose love has no bounds.
And the truth is: Whether our “fur babies” are still here with us in life or are waiting for us on the other side; they always have kind, compassionate and caring messages for us. And that is something we can trust and believe in.
If you’re reading this and something about your animal has been lingering in your heart — a behavior change, a transition, a loss, or a quiet sense that there’s more being communicated — you don’t have to hold those questions alone.
I offer Animal–Human Insight Sessions for those moments when listening more deeply feels important. These sessions are a space to understand what your animal is expressing — whether they are living, aging, transitioning, or in spirit — and to move forward with clarity, compassion, and peace of mind.
