Harnessing the benefits of sports massage, energy healing, and hoof pampering for peak performance and comfort.
Horses do so much for us, but we don’t always see how it affects their mind, body and “sole”. We may get an inkling that something is off, or it could be very obvious.
After all, their entire muscular system doesn’t show up on x-rays (neither does their energy level). So we need to help them heal any issues they may be having, that could be affecting their entire wellbeing.
First of all, when muscles are overworked, over-exercised and generally overloaded, the tissue will develop adhesions (“clumps” of tissue, leading to fibrosis), which restrict the proper shortening and lengthening of the muscle, thereby causing spasm and pain.
An important tool for optimum horse health is Equine Sports Massage. This isn’t a matter of simply rubbing the horse from head to tail, but using very specific hand movements, pressures and techniques with individual muscles that are optimal for proper function.
A full body equine sports massage covers the equine muscular system. In addition, the strokes used in equine sports massage are specifically designed to “break up” muscle adhesions, so the muscle is restored to its proper functioning.
When it comes to horse wellness, there are four specific medically-related problems whose symptoms can be alleviated through massage:
- Colic
- Tying Up (Muscle Stiffness)
- E.P.M. (Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis)
- Food Poisoning
But wait, there’s so much more in the way of equine massage benefits:
- Relaxation and Stress Reduction
- Increased Flexibility of Soft Tissue
- Reduction of Edema (swelling)
- Enhancement of Waste and Toxin Elimination
- Maintenance of Good Posture and Body Balance
- Prevention of Atrophy (Wasting) in Inactive Muscles
- Improvement in Athletic Performance
- Loosening and Softening of Scar Tissue
- Release of Endorphins (naturally-occurring steroids in the body which act to assuage pain)
- Enhancement of Muscle Tone and Range of Motion
- Advancement of Healing through Increase Flow of Nutrients to Injured Muscles
- Reduces Inflammation and Swelling in the Joints, thereby Alleviating Pain
- Helps maintain the WHOLE body in better physical condition
Equine sports massage not only helps your horse to feel better, but to perform better as well. And if that’s not enough, imagine adding in soothing hoof care.
As the saying goes: “No hoof, no horse”. In other words, if a horse is struggling in the hoof area, they simply can’t function properly – and they need to stand. (Unlike us humans who can use a wheelchair.)
Having spent years working with laminitis in my rescue horse “Happy Feet”, I became accustomed to using Epsom salt poultices and other treatments that helped to draw out toxins, and protect those important hoofs from bacterial and fungal invasions that cause lameness.
Treating the hooves (in addition to regular farrier care) keeps horses functioning – and standing in the best way possible.
In addition, energy healing helps to bring balance to the “energy body” without using physical touch. (Physical ailments can first appear as energetic “disruptions” before manifesting as physical problems.) After all, we know what stress can do to the body.
Put it all together, and you’ve got a great mixture of healing help for your equine friend. So if you want them to be happy, healthy and living their best life; consider a holistic approach – they’ll love you for it.
