The signs, lessons, and loving guidance our animals in spirit may be trying to send us.
Animals have been the greatest passion of my life. When I was 12 years old, I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian, but science and biology weren’t my strong suits.
Instead, my journey with animals became spiritual. It was about going to a deeper level, the one we can’t physically see.
And helping others understand that our bond with our animals never dies. But to do this, I had to go deep within my own intuition, and learn to trust it.
For empaths, it’s not always easy, even though we have an amazing intuition. But as I’ve explained in the past, that intuition can be easily blocked with the noise of the outside world.
Especially in today’s society. There’s so much to distract us, that it can be difficult to tune in and believe in the messages we’re picking up on.
Although I had been diving into intuition for years and helping others get unstuck and on track in their lives by diving into their intuition, it was the start of Covid that took me to an even deeper level.
Maybe it was because we all stopped and stayed inside more. Maybe it was because life felt more fleeting, and spirituality broke me open on a level that I didn’t anticipate.
And ironically, as the door opened to animal communication for me at that time, my beloved corgi Bailey passed away. I had just started diving into sessions with clients around their animals with animal communication, and the messages they were sending to them.
Then it became time to learn from her. You see, she had been there for me through the most difficult decade of my life: Two divorces, narcissistic abuse, the loss of my mother and step-father, seven moves (including across the country and back again).
There were many major life changes, and looking back, it was surprising that I survived it all in one piece. But I had her by my side, keeping me grounded and laughing. Above all, she gave me emotional stability through life’s ups and downs.
At the time that she passed (during the night), I had just taken her to the veterinarian that day, and was waiting on test results because she wasn’t well. And even though we have an intuition, there can be times when denial blocks us, because we don’t want to see the inevitable loss that’s coming.
We also know that we have to grieve, because we’re human, and it’s part of the healing process. So we can end up burying our heads in the sand. (In other words: I could feel she was leaving, but I didn’t want to see it.)
And yet, I knew what was coming. I knew she was sad, and I laid her down by the foot of the bed. My cat woke me up during the night, and I knew right away that Bailey was gone.
She had gotten up and laid down next to me, and that’s where she passed. At first, the feeling of her passing was unbearable.
Then there was the flood of messages that came through, and she said: “Here’s how I lived my life, and I want you to learn from that.” I wrote those characteristics down:
As I look back on these messages, they’re really the core of what we often learn as animal empaths:
- The power of now teaches us that when we focus on the present, we stop feeling anxious about the future, or depressed about the past.
- Looking forward to things gives us a sense of gratitude, which helps to keep us on track in life.
- Not taking any “crap” comes back to having those important boundaries in our life to preserve our energy.
- Bounding through snow and puddles is a lesson in joy and being “high vibe”.
- Being authentic to who we are is how we truly live life on purpose, so we can make an impact on the world in our own unique way.
And it’s the authentic way that our animals live their lives, that we love so much. They’re not egotistical. They’re not out for revenge, and they don’t have other human traits that can be annoying.
Instead, they know how to be authentic. We feel that, and on some level, we know that we should be that way too. But it’s not always easy when you’re human.
So what does your animal in spirit—animal angel, as I call them—want you to know? How would they want you to live your life, based on their wonderful personality traits?
Because the truth is, our animals don’t die. They’re also not waiting at the rainbow bridge, or anywhere else.
They’re still around us, because that’s what I find when I tune into them. They haven’t gone away, and they don’t want us to suffer for years with grief.
After all, that’s not how animals are. They’re inherently spiritual, because they don’t think about death.
They know that life continues, just in a different way. And we can honor our love for them by being more like them.
So tune into what your animal wants you to know, and think of them as one of your teachers. There’s so much you can learn from them when you allow yourself to heal and still feel their presence.
It hasn’t gone away, and it never will.
