How to move beyond overthinking and reconnect with the passion and purpose calling you forward
It’s not our head that drives our purpose — it’s our heart. I spent many years analyzing businesses when I was in corporate, and I’ve also listened to what successful entrepreneurs have said about how they achieved their success.
And it often comes back to the heart. For example, I was listening to a billionaire in his 60s talking about why he’s still working in his business, even though he doesn’t have to.
He’s still doing it because it’s the passion and love for what he does that’s driving him. It’s not about a daily grind, but doing something he really enjoys.
There’s a greater impact when we follow our passion. When we feel it in our heart and soul, rather than telling ourselves it’s what we NEED to do, we can make positive changes in the world.
After all, desire is more important than need. It’s that nudge from our heart that’s trying to guide us in the right direction.
But isn’t it great that it’s meant to be something we enjoy rather than something we hate doing every day? Or being bored with the same old career?
When I was in a job that I wasn’t passionate about, I was a bit of a clock watcher. I was always aware of how much time was left until I was “free” from the cage I felt I was in. What kept me going was planning my next trip for my vacation time.
But really, is that any way to live? Is that actually how we’re meant to be? The truth is, we’re meant for something much more.
We’re here for a purpose, and when we know what our heart wants, we step onto the right path. Unfortunately, many of us have been trained out of our inner knowing.
We grew up being told what to do. We listened to other “leaders” who apparently had the “right” answers. (Or at least what was right for them.)
We thought we had to follow the crowd. But ever since I was a teenager, I loved the poem from Robert Frost called “The Road Not Taken”, and the line that says:
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
It’s a reminder that even though no one else (or very few people) have taken the path that we feel drawn to take, we still need to listen to our heart. Following what feels good and letting ourselves out of the self-imposed cage that we’ve put ourselves in, is where we find our freedom.
And often, it’s where we discover true success. For those who are really in their heart, they find themselves attracting the things they need in life.
This can be people that help them along their path. It can also be money that’s needed to create the world and life from their vision.
So, how do you get there?
- Feel into what’s true for you without overthinking.
- Release the pressure to do the “right” thing, which may not be right for YOU.
- Allow yourself to be like a child again, and play with your imagination. (Journal or draw your dream life.)
- Let life flow, by taking a deep breath and appreciating where you are. (Have one foot in Gratitude, and one foot in Desire.)
To top it off, getting outside guidance to help take us from our head to our heart works as well (and often faster than trying to do it on our own). Because admitting we need help to re-discover ourselves isn’t weakness, but the strength of knowing that getting support is part of who we are as humans.
Having our tribe to offer insight and to cheer us on is so needed in our world. It actually helps us to discover our powerful intuition again.
There’s no need to go it alone, because it’s hard to read the label when we’re inside the jar. So whatever it takes to discover your passion is the right route to take.
And imagine what the world would be like if we all followed our heart. There would be happier humans doing work that doesn’t feel like work — using their talents with joy and alignment, while impacting the world in their own unique way.
If this resonated with you, and you’re ready to go deeper into your heart and gain clarity on your path, I’d love to invite you to a free live experience I’m hosting called Your Big Vision Activation.
It’s a 60-minute guided session where I’ll help you step out of overthinking, reconnect with your intuition, and experience a clearer vision of your aligned life and purpose.
